In this article, we’ll take you on a tour of these rooms and highlight the items you need to consider.

Babyproof Your Living Room

The most dangerous features in your living room are tall objects (e.g. bookcases, cabinets, etc.) and furniture on wheels. Tall objects are a threat for two reasons. First, they can fall onto your baby or toddler. Second, a lot of babies and young children are tempted to climb onto them. Wheeled furniture items are dangerous because they’re unstable. Babies who are just beginning to stand or walk might try to use a wheeled coffee table for support.

Bookshelves and wheeled furniture are merely scratching the surface. Wall outlets, ceramic decorations, and even fish bowls can lead to disastrous results if they’re placed within reach of babies. Moreover, if someone in your home owns a gaming console, the cords and cables can easily choke a small child.

Babyproof Your Bathroom

Your bathroom may appear safe to you, but can still hide several potential dangers. For example, your infant may be able to climb onto the rim of your toilet. That puts her at risk of falling in and drowning. She may be able to pull a plugged-in curling iron off the vanity counter. A flick of a button heats it quickly, placing her at risk of burns. Drawers left unsecured might contain medications, nail clippers, and other dangerous items.

One of the most potent threats to your baby’s safety are the bathroom cleaners and disinfectants stored near the floor. These chemicals can cause severe injury if they are ingested.

Babyproof Your Home Office

Home offices can be especially hazardous for infants and toddlers. There are usually multiple wall outlets, power strips, and cables. What’s more, office equipment, such as paper shredders, computers, phones, and fax machines are often left near the ground. That means they’re within immediate reach of wandering babies. The equipment might also be positioned on tables with their cords dangling to the ground – an invitation to be pulled. Uncovered trash cans, open filing cabinets, and bookcases can further transform your home office into a major trouble spot.

While the maze of office equipment can prove treacherous for a baby or toddler, the most dangerous elements are small nondescript items. Staples, pen caps, and paper clips can easily become lodged in your little one’s throat, causing her to choke.

Babyproof Your Kitchen

Your kitchen conceals several hazards that might escape your notice simply because you’re accustomed to them. For example, cleaning supplies are often kept close to the floor, within reach of a curious infant. Tablecloths practically invite babies to pull them. Forks, knives, and other utensils are often kept in drawers that can be easily opened by a young toddler.

Parents often unwittingly place their babies in danger by holding them while working next to the stove. A single unexpected twist or reach can result in a nasty – and painful – burn.

It is impossible to keep your eyes on your little one every second throughout each day. And even if you could, she would still manage to find her way into trouble. Instead, take the time to go through your home with your partner, and look for hidden dangers. Thoroughly babyproofing each room will go a long way toward preventing your infant from being injured.

Whether they are ?normal? or not, a temper tantrum is very stressing and aggravating to the parent, teacher and others around the child. Embarrassing and challenging, temper tantrums can ruin the nicest shopping trip or visit to grandmas or to the park. One can rest assured in the fact that they are not alone and that it is typical behavior in a three year old. This doesn?t relieve the frustration and aggravation and unhappiness it causes to others around the child.

Learning to handle the temper tantrum as smoothly and quickly as possible is ideal. Temper tantrums become a much more serious problem when the frequency, intensity and duration occur more than is normal for the child?s age. Every parent should educate themselves on the handling of temper tantrums and also how to be on the lookout for extreme temper tantrums in cause, length, severity, and frequency, as this may be a sign of some other disorder with your child.

The parent quickly learns what situations may trigger the temper tantrum. They are basically the same situation in and around a number of events. They child can?t have the scissors or knife (dangerous), more candy, or a friend?s toy that the child wants! The child has to leave the playground, pool, or store when the child does not want to, or the child has to do something (bath, eat, dress) that they do not want to do. In other words, what they want is not what the parent or authority figure has in mind for the child.
How does a parent handle these awful situations and how often is normal for one?s child are two questions all parents will want the answers to.

The easy solution and of course the one which the parent must not do, is to give in to the situation and let the child have their way. Logic tells us all that this is a HUGE mistake. Children will immediately learn that in order to get their way, a temper tantrum will achieve just that!

Although temper tantrums are not totally avoidable in the average three year old, there are good ways and better ways to handle the problem than to give in to the child. After all, every child must learn to obey certain rules and authority throughout his life and now is the time for learning, for the child?s sake and your own sanity.

Being as the temper tantrums are unavoidable does not mean that they cannot be signaling some other problem. This problem could be physical or a developing personality or learning disorder. Assuming you have educated yourself about the normal temper tantrums and positive reinforcing ways to dissolve the tantrum as quickly as possible, you should also be on the lookout for abnormal behavior in the intensity, frequency and duration of these events.

The parents should consult their pediatrician for advice on temper tantrums should they feel they are increasing in any way that is not normal for the age. There are other signs to look for that your doctor may ask you about other behaviors of your child. Depression, lack of self confidence, unable to detach from either parent, or aggression against others are among the questions he may ask. The physician may want to check his eyes and hearing and overall physical condition for other signs of problems. It may be necessary to consult with a child psychologist or child psychiatrist for mental evaluation.

The number one thing a parent should do early on in parenting is educate his/herself as much as possible about the normal frequency and intensity of temper tantrums for your child?s age, how to quickly and firmly dissolve the situation, and what to look for should the temper tantrum be a sign of another problem.

Unless you’ve made a list beforehand, figuring out what to buy can seem overwhelming. Some items, such as a crib, mattress, and various bedding material are obvious. Others, such as a changing table, nightlight, and room thermometer, are less so and can be easily neglected. In this article, we’ll categorize the items you should consider for your infant’s nursery into three groups. We’ll cover the things you’ll need, items that will make your life easier, and things you’ll wish your budget could handle.

Items You Definitely Need

Let’s start with the obvious items. As noted earlier, you’ll need to purchase a crib, mattress, and bedding supplies. The crib should be new with small slats to ensure your little one’s safety. Make sure the mattress fits the crib snugly; there should be very little space (i.e. no more than the width of two fingers) between the mattress and the sides of the crib. For bedding, buy two sets of sheets and a pad to place between them. That way, if your baby wets through the top sheet, the second sheet will remain clean.

You should also purchase a baby monitor. Ideally, it should have two receivers; one can remain in your bedroom and the other can be transported to any room you and your partner are in.

Non-Essentials That Will Make Your Life Easier

You can definitely get by without buying some of the following items. However, all of them will come in handy over and over. For example, consider buying a changing table on which you can change your little one’s diapers and clothes. While it might put a small dent in a tight budget, it can also minimize the pressure placed on your back while changing on lower surfaces.

Also, consider buying a disposal system for dirty diapers. These systems allow you to dispose of your baby’s diapers into a container that prevents unpleasant odors from escaping. As a result, you’ll only need to empty the container once every several days.

Purchase a few storage baskets for wipes, burp clothes, toys, and other odds and ends. They may seem unimportant, but you’ll find them valuable after your baby arrives.

Indulgences For The Flexible Budget

Once you have purchased all of the essentials along with a few “nice to haves,” you’ll want to at least explore the indulgences. Don’t neglect these products. Even if your budget is severely limited, make a note of the items you want so you can include them on your gift registries.

Consider buying a closet organizer, baby swing, and even a stereo. Each can arguably be called a “luxury,” but will provide plenty of value during the first several months of your baby’s life. Closet organizers are designed to help you maximize the limited space you have for storing diapers, clothes, shoes, and similar items. A battery-powered baby swing might prove instrumental toward calming your baby and helping him fall asleep when he’s fussy. A stereo system can have the same effect.

Avoid waiting until the last moment to plan your little one’s nursery. Start compiling a list of the items you need and want. Not only will that give you a head start on putting everything together, but it will also provide an opportunity to add some items to your gift registry.

Most importantly if you want to keep your baby warm during the cold weather season you want to be sure to keep his or her head covered. Very small babies are probably easier to keep hats on than toddlers because they can’t take them off but it is important to get even toddlers to wear a hat. The head is where the most heat is lost and a hat will work to hold that heat in and keep your baby warm.

Secondly you want to make sure that your baby has warm socks and shoes on as well. Many new parents just put socks on the baby and toss a blanket over the car seat but it is too easy for baby to get his feet out from under the blanket and get cold. Nice warm baby boots will keep your baby comfortable during the cold weather.

It is also important to keep the wind away from your baby as much as possible. Wind will not only make your baby cold but can also cause earaches as well as other illnesses should your baby be subjected to it. If your baby is still being carried around in a car seat it is easy to toss a blanket over it when you are outside but for babies that are a little older it may be more difficult. A coat with a hood that you can put up when out side will help to block the wind from your baby.

Finally, it is important to remember that your baby does not have to be dressed any warmer than you yourself or older children should be. Over dressing your baby will make him or her uncomfortable and you will surely pay the price for it.

As long as you use common sense when it comes to keeping your baby warm you will have no problem and will get through the winter season with a healthy baby.

The measurement of the diameter between the two sides of the babies head can be done after 13 weeks and is also useful for measuring the gestational age. By measuring the longest bone in the body, (the femur), it is possible to keep a track on the longitudinal growth of the foetus, and this should also be done as early as possible. Later in the pregnancy, the most important measurement is the abdominal circumference, which gives an indication into the actual size of the foetus rather than the age, and it is a useful way to monitor the growth.

It can also be a very important method of determining that the pregnancy is correctly sited in the uterus cavity, especially for women who have previously suffered from ectopic pregnancies, as signs can be visualized as early as four and a half weeks. If you are having trouble in your pregnancy with vaginal bleeding early on, it can determine the health of the foetus, as a heartbeat can be detected between only 6 and 7 weeks, and if a strong heartbeat is present there is a good chance of a continued pregnancy.

It is also an extremely useful method in detecting any abnormalities or malformation in the foetus.

Mouthing is normal behavior for infants. It’s a part of their development during which they form connections to the world around them. Even though most babies stop mouthing midway through their second year, their first eighteen months are filled with risks. In this article, we’ll describe the dangers and offer a few tips for protecting your little one.

Knowing The Risks

When infants put foreign objects into their mouths, there is a risk of infection, disease, choking, and swallowing toxic or sharp materials. For example, your baby might gain access to one of the small caps on your bathroom toilet. The cap might be too big for her to swallow, but can still cause infection if she puts it in her mouth.

An errant staple or paper clip can easily hide in a rug or carpet. If your little one swallows it, the sharp edges can damage her organs. A pen cap, penny, or small eraser can block her air passages and cause her to choke. In short, almost every foreign object poses a danger and requires parents to remain ever-vigilant.

Protecting Your Infant

It’s impossible to watch your baby every second she is awake. And it’s usually during those brief seconds that she somehow manages to find and eat strange objects. With that in mind, focus on what you can control.

First, limit your baby’s access to anything smaller than her fist. Even though she might try to eat a large rubber ball, you’ll have the comfort of knowing she’ll be unsuccessful. Second, make sure that anything she places her mouth on is disinfected regularly. This is especially important in environments where other babies are present. Third, baby-proof your home. Most homes have chemicals and potentially dangerous items near the floor. You’ll need to place these things out of your baby’s reach.

View The World From Her Perspective

The best way to baby-proof your house is to get down on your knees and view everything from her perspective. If she can grab something, there is a good chance she will try to put it into her mouth.

If you have cleaning supplies and chemicals near the floor, store them in an off-limits (i.e. behind a baby gate) section of your home. Remove any table coverings that she can pull on. Look carefully at the ground for any objects that might catch her attention (e.g. coins, paper clips, doorstops, magnets, etc.). If you have vases, porcelain, or other breakables, remove them. Otherwise, your little one can break and eat them.

Even though mouthing is normal for infants, the habit can rattle the nerves of new moms and dads. If you take the protective steps described above, you’ll dramatically reduce the likelihood of a problem. That said, realize that you cannot possibly watch your baby every second of the day.

Don?t give up – If your baby doesn?t like a food that?s really good for them, don?t give up. If you feed them a fruit or vegetable they once spit out, and you give it to them again, they may just eat it. Sometimes we aren?t in the mood for certain things, and when we aren?t in the mood, we?re not going to eat them. Therefore, keep trying to give your baby the food they didn?t like at first.

Dishes ? So, maybe your baby does like peas, but maybe if you mix them with something else, they will like it much better, and they will eat them. Sometimes certain things don?t taste good plain, but if you mix them, the taste is much more appealing. So, the next time they spit it out, try mixing the peas with something else you know they like. This is a great way for them to learn to like it, while still making them eat a healthy diet at the same time.

Our babies can certainly be fussy when it comes to food, but that shouldn?t make you inpatient, but instead more determined to find foods they like, and find a way for them to like the foods they ?don?t like?. Don?t give up on your little one; just think of ways to be more creative. Although, you do want to accept that if they really don?t like it, they don?t like it. We all hate certain foods, and when we even think of them we get grossed out. So, if your baby is going through this, maybe they really don?t like it. You will be able to tell what is worth giving another shot and what isn?t.
