Most children don?t start out aggressive. Babies are warm and loving. It is when they hit about 18 months old that they begin to make their parents pull their hair out! Toddlers around this age, and some older toddlers will sometimes hit, bite, kick and scream. If this sounds like your toddler then you are not alone.

Most toddlers start doing this and it is really just a way of expressing their opinion. That doesn?t mean that we as parents should let it go on though! It is defiantly a behavior that can and should be corrected.

Up until this point, toddlers only knew one way to express their displeasure. Now that they are learning new things it can be hard to control their emotions. Hitting or biting sometimes seems to be a good way to get what they want.

So what are some things that can correct the problem?

1.) Consistence- No matter what you decide to do you MUST be consistent. If you only address the problem sometimes then the toddler learns that the behavior is ok sometimes but not others. This only leads to confusion in the end. It leaves the toddler thinking, ?Why was I allowed to hit mommy one time and this time I am in trouble??

2.) A firm NO- There is no reason to scream at your toddler in fact for many children a firm no is all it takes. Look the toddler directly in the eyes and say, ?NO we do not hit.? Sometimes this takes care of the problem. Other times children need more direction

3.) Talk to your toddler- It may seem silly, but talking to your toddler can help. Tell them why they are not supposed to hit. For Example: ?Michael We do not hit people because it hurts them.?

4.) Remove them from the situation- If the toddler is playing with a group of children and insists on hitting them to get his way then take him away from the situation. Go into another room and give your toddler something else to do. Read a book, sing a song or color. In a few minutes you can take them back to play with their friends.

5.) Distract- Give them another way to release their energy. Go outside and play or allow them to bang on a drum. Most toddlers are easily distracted with food as well, give them a snack and let them have a little quiet time.

6.) Time out- Time out may be a little extreme for small toddlers, but it works well for toddlers that are 2 and older. Have them sit in time out no longer than 1 minute for every year of age. If you are having a hard time getting your toddler to sit still try putting him or her in a high chair for the duration of the time out.

One of the most important things that you can do is make sure that all the child?s needs are met. Children are more likely to act out if they are hungry, thirsty or tired. If it is time to eat then you can pretty much assume that is the reason your toddler is acting out.

Remember that you are setting the stage for the behavior that you expect. Be consistent now and it will pay off in the future.

Your body is growing, your balance is shifting, and energy is becoming a precious commodity in short supply by the end of each day. Welcome to the world of pregnancy. A general and persistent lack of comfort plagues millions of moms-to-be, which makes it difficult for them to fully enjoy the rewarding experience of being pregnant. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to reduce your discomfort.

Below, we’ll offer a few suggestions that will make your second and third trimesters more comfortable. You’ll learn how the right shoes, clothes, undergarments, and diet can play major roles in helping you enjoy this special time in your life.

Invest In The Right Shoes

As your feet go, so goes your mood. During your pregnancy, your feet may expand. Many women even experience an increase in their shoe size. This is due to water retention and the release of relaxin, a hormone that relaxes your ligaments. Meanwhile, as your feet begin to outgrow your shoes, extra weight is being placed upon them. This can quickly cause discomfort for your entire body.

Invest is flats and low-heeled shoes to relieve pressure on your back. Not only will they provide more comfort, but as your balance changes, you’ll be less likely to stumble and take a dangerous fall.

Clothes That Fit Your Body

You can probably continue wearing your pre-pregnancy clothes throughout the beginning your first trimester. However, by week number ten or eleven, they’ll begin to feel a little too snug around your body. That’s a sign you’re ready for maternity clothes.

Many moms-to-be avoid transitioning to maternity wear for a number of reasons, including cost and vanity. While some designers arguably charge a high price, a lot of maternity clothes are reasonably priced to fit most budgets. What’s more, the unfashionable tops and bottoms of yesteryear have been replaced by stylish clothes that combine playfulness with a dash of sophistication.

When you feel your clothes becoming tight, treat your body to maternity wear that offers a more comfortable fit.

Maternity Bras And Undergarments

Your breasts will grow during your pregnancy, a situation that offers benefits and drawbacks. While you’ll relish your new curves, you might also experience back pain if your bras offer insufficient support. Invest in maternity bras that provide the support your body needs in order for you to feel comfortable.

While you’re shopping, consider buying panties that are designed to accommodate your lower half. Far from the unflattering pregnancy undies of old, today’s designers have created lingerie that will complement your figure and lift your mood.

A Diet To Help Curb The Morning Blues

Morning sickness is practically inescapable. Most women suffer some level of nausea during their pregnancy. For some, the chronic queasiness appears during the first trimester and turns into an unwelcome guest for the duration.

First, if the nausea is particularly severe, ask your obstetrician to suggest a few foods that can lessen the effects. For example, crackers can help reduce the severity of motion sickness because the taste is relatively bland. Also, try citrusy fruits, such as oranges or grated lemons. Some moms-to-be find lightly-salted potato chips provide relief.

Treating Your Skin With Care

Use lotion and sunscreen liberally to protect your skin from the elements. Doing so will prevent dryness and itchiness, which can quickly become frustrating while you’re pregnant. Also, if you have the time, consider making an appointment at a day spa. A pedicure, facial, and massage can do wonders for your comfort and your mood.

Pregnancy is a special time during which you’ll marvel at the life growing inside you. It’s also a time of challenges as your body expands to accommodate your baby. Use the suggestions above to stay as comfortable as possible while waiting for your little one to finally arrive.

What happens to discipline when your child argues with you? Does the discipline become a battle? Learn 3 ways to model character and practice the winning formula for solving arguments. It?s time you get the respect you deserve.

The Discipline Problem: Endless Arguing between You and Your Kids:

Arguing with kids is like a spinning top. It keeps spinning until you give up, tip over, and say, ?Yes? when you want to say, ?No.?

Kids push arguments to senseless heights. Be rational when they?re not, otherwise your discipline will fail. They?ll win. Why? Many kids argue louder and longer than their parents. If this is the way your kids get what they want, you can change it.

Let?s look at 3 discipline solutions for ending arguments and solving problems, but first let?s look into your past.

Did You Argue with Your Parents?

If so, did you win? Was it easier for them to give up than to keep arguing? Was arguing the way you got what you wanted? Do you remember telling your parents:

1. You always say, ?No!?

2. You make me do everything!

3. It isn?t fair!

Maybe you felt powerful, angry, or guilty. Perhaps you lost respect for your parents. Realize your kids feel the same way. That?s why you must stop the arguing. You must stop the manipulation. You must find a different way to solve problems.

First Parenting Tip – Model Respect and Character:

Your voice, your body language, and your words have the power to teach.
Some parents teach the following mistakes. Don?t let these mistakes be yours:

1.) Argue with a loud rough voice. The child learns to argue the same way because parents modeled the voice.

2.) Stand with stiff body language, pointing finger, and angry face. The child learns to mimic the same stance because parents modeled it.

3.) Yell, name call, and use hurtful words. The child repeats the language because parents modeled it.

What to do:

Speak kindly and firmly with your child. Form a relaxed body language and speak in a civilized manner. You are the parent, the teacher, the model.

Second Parenting Tip – Listen Well and Speak Well

1.) Look into your child?s eyes as he?s speaking.

2.) Give your child your full attention.

3.) Ask questions to show interest.

4.) Avoid interrupting.

5.) Stay on the subject.

Third Parenting Tip ? The Rules and the Formula

The Discipline Formula Rules:

You?ll need a timer and a coin.

Toss the coin to see who starts.

You can only speak when holding the coin.

The first speaker, with coin in hand, can only speak for one minute. When done, the speaker gives the coin to the listener.

Start the timer.

The Discipline Formula:

After the listener receives the coin and before he starts to make his point, he must say in his own words what he heard the speaker before him say.

He then asks, ?Was I right?? If he wasn?t, he must keep trying until he gets it right. Only when the listener repeats correctly can he become the speaker.

Then start the one minute timer.

Repeat this process until each person is ready to make some positive commitments about the subject of the argument.

Write out the commitments with each person signing his name next to his commitment. Post it on the refrigerator.

Conclusion for Teaching your Kids How to Solve Arguments:

Infancy is one of the sweetest moments for every proud parent. The first smile, the first sounds (apart from the occasional belches) and the first baby steps are more priceless than the Master Card adverts. The enchanting eyes, the toddling movements and the entire presence of a baby around the house seem to light up the world for parents more than any other festive occasion.

But as someone quoted in Spider Man 3- ?With great power comes great responsibility.? A parent must always have a keen eye to see the baby has a proper sleep schedule in the growing up period. And for that, it?s absolutely necessary to know how to sleep train your baby, to ensure that your little angel has the sweetest dreams throughout the night.

The most critical step in learning how to sleep train your baby is in adjusting the baby?s sleep patterns based on the time of the day. A parent must always engage the baby in some activity during the day after feeding by moving around, and exposing him to various sights and sounds.

There is also the crying down technique to prevent sleep disorders. Make your baby cry out alone at specific times, but be ready to buy some decent ear plugs!

Be careful to note that your baby does not have any medical conditions while sleeping. If he does, base your training on consultation with a doctor. Always remember that the techniques vary from child to child, so allow your baby to find the sleep pattern most suited for his taste. And remember, a bottle, a nice bedtime story and some soothing music in the crib always make for a good sleep, while also helping you realize how to sleep train your baby according to your baby?s preferences.

Set a regular, consistent bedtime and always be there to reassure your baby once he starts to cry. Once the routine is followed for a month or so, he will automatically adjust to his environment. Keep visiting him every 15-20 minutes just to keep a check. New scenarios like arrival of visitors, or physical movement need extra care to make sure the baby is not frightened.

Try sleeping in the baby?s room for sometime to reassure him of your presence. Keep soothing him by picking him up, or playing with the stuffed animals to remove the sense of fear from the mind over time. Once that is done, your baby will be fast asleep. Make sure it happens more in the crib than your arms.

Finally, maintain a time keeping clock or a chart to record your own progress with time. This will help you realize which methods are working and you can move towards a more efficient sleep training schedule in no time.

Remember, each child is special, and so is the connection with their parent. Turn on the music, take your baby in your arms and let the hearts bond before a dreamy session of comforting sleep.

More and more families are becoming blended families which means that parents are remarrying and children and gaining new step parents. This can also mean some rocky roads ahead. Blended families rarely mesh together easily and seamlessly, there is usually a great deal of adjustment and often a lot of conflict. Step children may be resentful to the new parent, feeling that the step parent wants to take the biological parent’s place. Children can become surly, depressed and combative. They may act out at home or at school causing their parents a great deal of stress and worry. This is normal, but that knowledge does not make the transition any easier. These tips, however, might.

Don’t expect to bond overnight.

I can take a blended family years to bond. Don’t rush it and don’t push the child to accept you. If you are having trouble with your step child not accepting you, take a step back and allow them to guide the relationship. Once they see that you will be there no matter what, they will be much more likely to accept you and warm up to you. The key, though, is that you don’t try to rush the relationship. Allow it to grow, nurture it and take it easy.

Understand the difference between the blended family and the first family.

The first family has either ended due to a divorce or death which is traumatic to a child. If your step child is having trouble accepting you, they may have some issues with how they are handling the dissolution of the first family. Understand that there are many differences and be sensitive to what the child may be feeling.

Don’t try to take the place of a parent.

This is a mistake that many step parents and well meaning biological parents make. They try to force the children to view the step parent as the “new dad” or “new mom.” In other words, they try to put the step parent in the place of the biological parent. This can cause a great deal of resentment because your child will fill that you are edging their other parent out and you are stepping in. Don’t go into the relationship full force as a parent. Be a friend, be a confidant, be someone they can trust. The rest will follow.

Discipline as the adult in charge, not at the parent.

A step child who is acting out and giving you a hard time will give you a harder time if you try to discipline them as if you were their parent. Take a step back at first and be the adult in charge. Step parenting is a position that you have to ease into much of the time. You may no be viewed as a parent for two, three, four or even six years. It takes a great deal of time, effort and patience, but don’t rush it by trying to be the parent right off the bat.

Address the “you’re not my mom/dad” argument early.

One of the most common arguments that a step parent will face is the “you’re not my mom” or “you’re not my dad” argument. Don’t let this throw you. Be confident about who you are and what role you have in the child’s life. Make sure that you express it clearly, but sensitively. You may want to acknowledge that no, you are not their parent. You can tell the child that they have a mother and father and that you have no intention of replacing them. Discipline not as the parent, but as the adult in charge.

Present a united front with your spouse.

Children can be masters at manipulation and if they see that they can manipulate you or your spouse they will. When the two of you do not agree on discipline or parenting, this can cause cracks in your armor. This weakness will be picked up by the children and they can attack, pitting one parent against the other. This will cause a great disruption in your family. Even if you and your spouse do not agree on discipline, do not allow your children to see that. Stick together and back each other.

Keep your marriage in focus.

If you have married into a ready made family, you are building a relationship with your spouse as well as with your step children. Keep your marriage as the focus and stand together. Back each other and take time out for just the two of you, even if it is just a walk around the block. Step families can be challenging, but they can also be very rewarding. It is well worth the time, patience and energy that you spend on it.

Use the three L’s

The three L’s can help foster any relationship, but they can most certainly turn around a step child who does not accept you.
* Learn
* Listen
* Love
Learn what they like and don’t like, what their dreams are, who they admire and why. In short, get to know the child as a person.
Listen to them when they talk. Really listen, don’t just hear. Don’t try to fix all of their problems or tell them what to do. Ask questions to find out what they are thinking and ask for their opinion.

Love them, just love them.

Can you build character with pressure? If your kids seem anxious, stressed, or stubborn, something?s wrong. Look inside to find out if you?re making this discipline mistake and what to do about it.

The Problem is Pressure:

Pretend you have a daughter named Mary. Over time Mary resents your demands to get more A?s, to do more chores, to get out of bed in time for school.

No matter how much you nag, yell, or threaten, she won?t cooperate. For her, your pressure is a vice squeezing and flattening her desire to cooperate. She becomes resistant.

You want to build character, but the problem is pressure.

How Did Your Parents Discipline You?

Perhaps your parents continually pressured you to do more. If so, did you go inside your head and think:

1. Nothing I do is good enough.
2. I wish she?d leave me alone.
3. They?re always on my back.

Too much pressure can suffocate your child?s desire to achieve.
Disciplining with Pressure – A True Story:

I remember a boy who couldn?t relax. His parents kept pressuring him to accomplish more.

He blushed when spoken to. He stuttered when answering. His eyes darted about like a nervous bird. He was the number one student, musician, and athlete. He tried hard and did well. But he never felt good enough.
One day, when he was a teenager, he exploded. His family life changed; all closeness was gone. He left home for good.

His case is extreme and points out what can happen when we pressure too much.

If you demand too much of your children, how can you discipline better and build character too?

3 Parenting Tips for Building Character without Pressure:

First Parenting Tip ? Question Yourself

1. How is my child reacting to my demands? Notice his body language and his words.
2. How can I prevent my child from being anxious, angry, or stubborn?
3. How can I raise my child without pressure and build character too?

Second Parenting Tip ? Appreciate

Develop an eye for appreciation. Instead of insisting that your child do more, notice what she?s already done. Drop the pressuring. Increase the motivation with compliments. You could say:

1. You?ve worked so hard on your homework, why don?t you take a break?
2. I enjoyed watching your face at baseball practice because you smiled, laughed, and encouraged your team.
3. Your room looks good, especially the way you made your bed.

There are parents who might ask, ?Are you nuts?? To them I?d answer, ?If what you?re doing is causing anxiety, anger, and resistance, what have you got to lose? Why not practice these tips??

Third Parenting Tip ? Motivate

1. Share, read, and talk about inspiring stories of heroes. Why stories? Lectures irritate and stories motivate.
2. Post an inspirational quote on the refrigerator each week. Discuss it. Challenge each member of the family to do something inspiring too. Make sure the challenge is their choice.
3. At Sunday breakfast, ask each member of the family, ?What did you do during the week that you?re proud of??

Remind them, ?It doesn?t matter if you succeeded. It matters that you tried.? You?ll love what you hear.

Conclusion for Building Character without Pressure:

You don?t need to raise an anxious child. You don?t need to discipline with pressure.

You can build character by improving your discipline, appreciating your child, and using inspirational stories. Motivate your children to discuss what they?re proud of too.

If you do, you?ll be raising a loving family. The kids will achieve and cooperate. One more thing, you?ll be raising children with character.

Educators know that it is extremely important for children to have active playtime in order to develop naturally and be physically healthy. Sadly, more children than ever are considered to be obese, facing the danger of developing diabetes. Lifestyle choices that limit the amount of childhood active play are the predominant factors resulting in this alarming trend.

The Link between Active Play and Mental Play

Active play is made up of the wide variety of physical activities that children naturally engage in during the course of a normal day. These activities shift as developmental markers are reached, but a short list includes standing, crawling, rolling, swinging, running, jumping, swimming, rollerblading and bike riding. Many studies link the amount and quality of childhood active play to both brain size and brain development.

The Modern Sedentary Lifestyle

Even if your children don’t spend hours each day in the coma-like trance brought on by watching television programs, they likely spend excessive amounts of time sitting in front of a computer screen playing video games. These virtual games often substitute for active play with friends in the neighborhood and at the park. The fact that children are taught to use the home computer at younger ages than ever before also contributes to them engaging in less active playtime as they get older.

Unfortunately, it is a habit that perpetuates itself into adulthood and is illustrated best by the image of a white collar office worker spending eight hours a day working at a computer.

Playing Actively is Critical for Motor Skills Development

Older children derive some benefit in terms of hand-eye coordination from learning to move a computer mouse around or handling a video game controller. Problems arise when they spend too much time engaging exclusively in this type of activity.

Younger children, however, develop best when interacting directly with their physical environment. From the infant to the elementary school child, cognitive, social, emotional and physical development are all directly related to the amount of time the child spends engaged in active play. Active play not only helps to develop motor skills, but builds the small and large muscle groups needed to maintain a healthy body.

Healthy Children, Healthy Adults

What is at stake here is not only the health of children, but the health of the adults they will become. Lifestyle habits are difficult to change, and a sedentary child has a greater likelihood of becoming a sedentary adult. Healthy adults need a minimum of 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise each day to help reduce the chances of developing heart disease, high blood pressure and non-hereditary diabetes. With so many adults working long hours at sedentary jobs, establishing a healthy routine that includes active play early in life is paramount to maintaining optimum physical health into the adult years.

The nature of human development dictates that children should be engaged in actively playing throughout their days. Engaging in childhood activities and exercise fosters every kind of child development, as well as maintains the physical health of the individual.

Anybody who has ever raised a child knows how frustrating it can be to go through the potty training stage with a young child. While some children go through the process of potty training fairly easily there are some that may take longer than expected. This could be for any number of reasons including fear of the toilet or the bathroom, having an immature bladder at the time training is started, or even trying to force a child to hard to use the bathroom themselves. And the thing is you cannot give up no matter how difficult the training is. You have to keep dealing with the messes and buying diapers until your child is ready to start using the potty all on his or her own. But there are a few things that you can do along the way that may help your child to overcome what ever fears or other hurdles that they have in their potty training journey. There are a few potty training tips that may get them go potty all by themselves in no time at all.

1. The first tip regarding potty training that will make your life much easier is to learn to be persistent without pushing your child to hard. Be sure to take your child to the potty every time that they say they have to go to the bathroom but do not punish them if they don’t actually go. It is also a bad idea to punish your child if they have an accident and did not tell you that they had to go. If a child doesn’t make it to the bathroom in time and they are punished for it they may be afraid that the next time they tell you they won’t make it again and they will be punished for it. Be there for them but do not be too hard on them.

2. Another way to get the idea of going potty in the bathroom in your child’s head id to take them to the bathroom every time that they have an accident. Set them on the potty to show them that this is where they should go and clean them up in the bathroom and it may help to reiterate the fact that the bathroom is for going potty.

3. It always helps to make going potty fun for your child as well. There are plenty of books out there about potty training that you can read to your children that may make them realize that using the toilet is not so bad after all. Showing them characters that they can some how relate to doing the same thing may help to get them going.

4. Giving your child small rewards can also be a great way to encourage potty training but they should be given fairly minimally. The best time to give a reward would be when the child goes to the bathroom completely on his own and it should not be expected that they will get a gift every time they use the toilet.

Potty training can be difficult but with a few tricks up your sleeve you can have your child going to the bathroom by his or her self in no time.

Are you the parent of a teen, namely a female teen? If you’re, has your teenager ever discussed entering into a beauty festival before? If she lately has, have you given her a call yet? For many moms and pops, their first is no way, but you need to know that beauty competitions are all not as bad as they appear. When it comes to determining whether you need to let your teenager enter a beauty competition or maybe a number of them, you need to know that there are a number of benefits and disadvantages to doing so. One of those pros or and sides is the undeniable fact that it is something that your teen wants to do.

If your teen was the one that brought up a beauty competition then there’s a fair chance that it is something that interests them. Another one of many pros or plus sides to permitting your teenager enter a beauty festival or maybe a number of them is due to the rewards. What’s pleasant about beauty festivals is that you do not just get a prize or a ribbon, but you also get a money prize reward. Rather than money, some beauty festivals even give out grants.

If your kid has an interest in making their own cash or if they’re inquisitive about going to varsity, a beauty competition may be in a position to assist them in achieving their goals. While there are a number of pros to letting your teenager enter into beauty festivals, there are a number of cons or downsides to doing so also. One of those drawbacks is the work that goes into attending beauty competitions. Now, if your teenager was only inquisitive about competing in a local pageant, this would possibly not be as big an issue for you.

there are beauty festival families out there who really spend some time traveling across the land taking part in beauty festivals. While you and your teenager can do this if you’d like, it frequently places lots of stress, both emotional and money, on all family members. Another one of the cons or drawbacks to permitting your teenager to take part in a beauty festival is the result. Sadly , it appears as there’s a stereotype related to beauty festivals. Many people only believe that beauty festivals are for people that are breathtakingly lovely or thin.

Maybe , this is due partly to the fashion industry and many beauty competition judges. Though your teenager can take part in a beauty festival if she wants to, no matter what her appearance is, it is something you may wish to take under consideration. For youths, there’s nothing worse or more damaging to one’s self confidence if they’re told or made to feel as if they are not pretty or accomplished enough. In accordance with the competition your teen may find it quite tough to jump right into beauty festivals. A fair number of the kids who take part in beauty competition have done so since they used to be a toddler or primary school aged. While not necessarily, these players are usually rather more likely to see success than someone that latterly made a decision to enter a beauty festival.

Naturally, that does not imply that your teenager can’t place high or perhaps win a beauty competition, but it means that they could have lots of difficult work before them. The above discussed good points and bad points are only a few of many that exist. If your teenager has lately asked you if they could play a role in a beauty competition, it is something you and the remainder of your folks may wish to seriously consider or at least closely inspect.

Have you ever seen yourself in a situation wherein you would have to raise your child on your own? Have you fully understood the impact of this circumstance in your entire life? Single parenting is not easy at all. If couples encounter difficult situations in rearing their children, how much more having to raise a kid all by yourself?

You can never say that taking care of a child is a piece of cake. You have to teach a child how to aim in the toilet, hold the spoon to feed himself or herself, gargle when brushing, and many others. As he or she starts with school, you should attend the programs and activities that your child will be joining in. Recitals, dictation tests, quiz bees, dances, and the likes would always require your presence. And this only goes to show that your time is necessary and single parenting can make it a bit hard on your part.

What if you are a middle class parent and you don’t have much means to provide your child with everything that he or she needs? How will you go about all the expenses then? Again, this is another challenge to single parenting. It is your conscience that you will be going against as you may always think that you are a failure in this aspect.

Hence, a sense of guilt oftentimes cuts deep into the heart of any parent. When it comes to single parenting, one doesn’t fully know whether he or she is already giving more. At the end of it all, you as the parent are always asking the same question over and over again as to whether you are doing well enough in promoting the happiness of your child and ensuring that he or she gets the best of everything you are capable of giving.

One good reason as to why single parenting is deemed to be a tough task is because you have to act as both the mom and the dad. You will be the provider and at the same time the caretaker. While it seems to be obviously a very difficult task, it is not impossible for you to attain it. There are a couple of tips that you may keep in mind to be certain that parenting for you becomes an enjoyable experience.

A great tip to apply in single parenting is no other than that of showing your child how much you love him or her. This will assure the child that he or she belongs.

Then, don’t fall short of expressing your affection through words. You are your child’s security blanket so make it a point to assure him or her very often.

Read to your child before he or she sleeps. Your child may be too young to understand it yet but this experience will let him or her understand the concept of quality time.

Another great single parenting tip is for you to go out with your child. Show him or her around and do things together.

Single parenting can be made easy if only you know how to balance your time and have your child as your top priority.
