?What are we to do with our teen this summer?? Many parents wonder. They are looking for a place that offer personal growth and independence but in a safe place, away from the pressures of today. Well the answer has been around a long time, its Summer Camp! Yep, Summer Camp!

Parents of teenagers can find a summer camp that suits the needs of their child. Specialty camp like soccer camp, space camp, science camp, math camp, music camp, are all great at teaching a skill. Yet, traditional summer camp are general camps where camps have fun and work on self development. Wisconsin Camps like Swift Nature Camp a Teen Summer Camp offers coed summer camp programs that are just for teenaged campers up to 15 years of age. A Counselor in Training Program offers a transition for teens aged 16 and 17 (provides leadership training).

Like its summer camp programs for preteens, Swift Nature Camp offers an amazing range of camp activities. Hiking, climbing, ceramics, horseback riding, tennis, kayaking, and whitewater rafting are among the most popular programs among teen campers.

Summer camps with programs for teens can provide a special opportunity for them to make friends in a relaxed and fun-filled environment, build self-esteem and independence, and meet the challenge of new adventures.

Swift Nature Camp offers teen cabin mates to leave camp together and venture into the wild. The ideal location brings opportunities to take unforgettable trips to the Apostle Islands, the International Wolf Center, and the Mississippi River. These trip are wonderful ways to build bonds among the campers. But more importantly, it helps each child feel a part of the team and want to make a contribution.

All children, especially those in their teenage years, need a break from the accelerating competition of today’s world. An intimate, friendly and noncompetitive environment for teens fosters positive encouragement. The atmosphere of acceptance brings a welcome balance to young lives. Even first time campers quickly and smoothly adjust to life as a camper in this kind of setting.

Today’s teens grow up too fast and need time to play. An Adventure Summer Camp should challenge your teen to try new things, but not in a stressful way. Camp is not school! Interaction with animals can be a perfect way for a child to learn by the natural discovery of play. Besides all the fun and excitement of a traditional camp, the kids have the joy of discovering Nature and the world we live in.

After living life in a beautiful natural setting among caring staff and instructors, teens come to love summer camp. Many teen campers return summer after summer, returning to see friends and enjoy the excitement, self-direction, and goofy fun characteristic of camp life.

Summer camp is a great place to be oneself and a perfect place to make lifelong friends. Teens come to love summer camp and look forward to time away from the pressures of performance, and the change to rediscover themselves.

So you have selected the Best Overnight Summer Camp for your child. You did all the research and had your child help in the selection. Yet, preparing for camp involves more than just packing their clothes in a suitcase. You want to be sure that your kid is emotionally prepared for this Summer Camp Adventure.

Getting your child ready for camp requires a delicate balance. Talking about this exciting new experience is great but, you also don’t want to overdo it. Over discussing Summer Camp can cause, children to loose a sense of reality, lead to expectations and fantasies that can’t be met, thus, leading to disappointment. It’s also possible that these discussions continually highlight fears which, lead only to an increase of homesickness. Several months before the beginning of camp you may want to start your discussions but not much before April. As receive pre-camp information it’s wise to share these with your child.

Camp Conversations: Choose your words wisely when you are talking about overnight summer camp. Children are very perceptive, and they feel your concerns and fears. You don’t even have to make a negative comment and they know. Visit your library, rent a movie or pick up books about camp. Watch or read them together. Remember, most of the story lines are exaggerated, but they can be a good segway on how to handle situations at camp.

However, make sure to pick up on the subtle signals that your child sends. If they seem put off by the books or videos, then drop the subject. Most importantly, make sure that you never use camp as a threat or in anger. It’s important that you never seem like you’re counting the days until your child leaves for camp. The words can linger longer than you think, and it will confuse your child about what camp is supposed to be. Your child should believe that camp is a fun experience and that is why you have chosen it.

Some Dos: * Do try to have your child meet the camp director before camp begins.

* Only talk in a positive way, they need to know you trust camp to be a safe, exciting place.

* continue to have sleepovers with family and friends.

* Do continue to have short separations, such as sleepovers with family and friends for good practice.

* Do allow your child to verbalize her concerns, even if they sound silly. You may learn about worries that you can easily resolve.

* Talk to a former camper about summer camp. They can tell you what camp is really like from a kids point of view.

Some Don’ts: * Don’t introduce anything else new in your child’s life. Try to keep everything as normal as possible, especially in the time close to the opening day.

*Squeeze in a family vacation just before camp starts is never a good idea. Plan to be at home for a few days before your lid leaves to go to camp. This provide the comfort of a usual routine.

* Don’t let your child suspect you have concerns about his adjustment.

These are just a few ideas that can help you as you send your child to Summer Camp for the first time. To learn more be sure to visit www.SummerCampAdvice.com

The summer camping experience can benefit greatly the Homeschooler. Regardless, of no age, grade level or religious background. Homeschool Summer Camps provide a place where children can be self-sufficient, and that’s a major part of growing up. Camp Councilors model perseverance, listening, teamwork and appreciation of differences. Whereby, helping children set new and standards for their own behavior, in turn brings their new found independence more in line with your at-home teachings.

There are many choices when choosing a summer camp, so how do you know you are picking the right camp for your homeschooler? Here are simple steps to assist parents sending their children to camp. Doing your work in advance will help ensure that your child has an enjoyable summer packed with wonderful memories and new experiences.

Benefits Of Summer Camps Sleepaway camp offers home schooled children something special. A wonderful opportunity to socialize with other children in a new and exciting environment. Summer Camp provides lasting friendships. Often kids make camp their summer home returning year after year. it is not unusual for a child to attend camp for 3,4 or 5 summers. Many continue past camper age and then become a Counselor in Training. After that they move on to counselor , being a leader for younger children .

Jeff Lorenz Director of Swift Nature Camp a Children’s Summer Camp in Wisconsin says “Summer Camp provides children the chance to be independent and assume leadership roles. Without parents or siblings around campers often show their responsibility thus improving self-confidence when they return back home”.

The many activities available at summer camp gives children the opportunities to try new things and discover new skills. From canoeing and Arts & Crafts to Swimming, Hiking and Horseback riding the list of activities available at different camps are of the utmost benefit to the children who attend.

Tips To Choosing the Right Summer Camp Look for a summer camp program that fits a child’s comfort level. If the child has never been away from home and is 8 and under a day camp program may be more suitable. If he’s used to overnights away from home a residential camp may be a better fit. Usually overnight camps start at around age 8. But do not be afraid to challenge your child by giving him or her new opportunities. We all know that often home schooled children are a bit more attached to their family members. This may mean that you need to work a little harder to get them ready for an overnight camp. But chances are it will be well worth the effort

Choosing a camp that offers activities your child is interested in is important. There is comfort in the familiar and a traditional summer camp provides opportunities in many areas giving a child comfort in some things a child has tried before as well as activities that ask him to leave their comfort zone.

If possible find a summer camp that has a First timer camp. This is usually only for kids that have not been at camp before so it sets a level playing field for all campers. These programs tend to be shorter as well perfect for the younger children helping to lessening a child’s fears and make sure a camp is the right one.

Past campers are vital in determining if a camp is a good fit for your child. Don’t be afraid to ask these references about their experiences and feelings. Older campers are usually eager, to share about the role summer camp has played in their lives.

Checking for accreditation is also a vital step in choosing a camp. Most provinces and states have a camping authority, which holds camps using their logo to a set of standards far above a camp not operating under their banner. Check that the camps you are looking at are (ACA) American Camp Association approved.

Lastly, and probably most important talk to the Camp Directors. In this age of internet websites its easy to make a decision with out ever had personal contact with the directors or owner. Parents often have strong intuition when making decisions that will affect their children and these should always be taken into account. Discuss any feelings and concerns with the camp staff. If parents are still uneasy after following all of these steps, the camp being considered is likely not the right one for their child.

There are many benefits to sending your daughter to a summer camp. What really adds to her experience is choosing the perfect summer camp for her – one where her developmental needs are met and her interests are matched. You will want a camp that has the experience to handle everything from homesickness to medical emergencies. Here is what to consider when choosing the right camp for your daughter.

Start by deciding how your daughter really wants to spend her summer. Pay attention to her life goals and interests. Depending on her age, do research together and ask her what camps she might like to attend. There are specialty camps for computer whizzes as well as musical camps for music prodigies. There are also traditional camps that help your daughter learn about the great outdoors. It is also important to look at the types of programs and activities the children will be participating in. If you do not agree with some activities of a camp, it would not be a good idea to send your daughter there. There are over 8,000 camps in the United States today, so if you strike out on the first few you look at, don’t give up! The correct camp is out there and waiting.

Depending on what is important to you and how you would like your daughter to experience camp, you may want to look at the size of the camp, as well as the staff-to-camper ratio. If you would like your daughter to get one-on-one attention, then send her to a smaller camp. However, if you would simply like her to meet her peers and socialize, then send her to a larger camp or a co-ed camp.

As a parent, you have clear guidelines on your daughter?s educational process, morals, ethics, and ideologies. Be sure the camp’s philosophy and mission is aligned with your family?s belief system. Talk to the staff and ask a lot of questions. Go their website and see what activities they offer and more importantly, why they offer them. Do they offer outdoor activities mainly to teach girls confidence? Or are outdoor activities offered as a means of teaching religious devotion?

Also, you must consider the location of the camp with your daughter in mind. For a young child, you may consider a day camp in your city or a nearby overnight camp. If your daughter is older and more adventurous, sending her to a camp out of state or even to another region could be exciting for her! Sending her to an area she has never been to can groom her for more important life events away from home, such as going off to college, the military or the Peace Corps. However you and your daughter choose the perfect camp, it can be a difficult and perhaps lengthy process. Still, when you choose a great camp, it is always extremely worth it in the end!

Finding constructive, fun ways for your daughter to spend the summer months can be a challenge, especially with today?s busy lifestyle. Summer camp can be a wonderful option for your young teen. A good camp program can give just the right mix of freedom and supervision, new experiences and a safe environment to foster her development as she gets ready for womanhood.

This time-honored summer tradition can provide your daughter with lifelong memories, but that is only part of the story. She could very well come home with a toolbox full of new skills, lasting friendships, and newly discovered confidence in her own abilities that will serve her well into adulthood.

The best summer camps offer an exciting range of activities tailored to appeal to a variety of interests. These camps employ highly trained counselors who are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and experience. Many camps offer varied program lengths, from a few days to several weeks away from home.

If she is a sports enthusiast, your daughter may enjoy a sports-themed camping experience. Camp counselors and trainers will help your daughter perfect her skills as she shares her experiences with new friends from all over the country. Sports camps can offer specialized skills instructions that will prepare her to compete in her sport at a whole new level.

Your technically talented daughter will lose herself at computer camp. Surrounded by counselors who speak her language and understand complex computer skills, your teen can expand her knowledge and challenge herself along with other kids with similar interests. Whatever her particular strengths, from gaming and robotics to web site construction and video editing, she will surely find herself taking on new skills and making friends.

Other, more traditional summer camps offer encounters with the rugged outdoors. S?mores around the campfire, horseback riding, hiking, canoeing and many other activities can help create memories that she will treasure. Leaving behind the technological trappings (many don?t allow cell phones, email or even TV) and stresses of the modern world and getting back to nature can be both physically challenging and mentally freeing. It can give your daughter the opportunity to know herself better than ever before, and to prove what she is made of.

Many summer camps are geared to teach leadership skills as well as fun. These focus on providing experiences that equip your teen with fortitude and determination, as well as adding greatly to her character and understanding of those around her. She will learn to be a part of a team, to find those qualities in her counselors she admires and would like to emulate. These camps can light a spark of self reliance in your daughter that will take her far beyond her teenage years.

No matter what your daughter?s interests and abilities may be, the right summer camp will help her find her hidden gifts and discover her niche in the world. From basketball camp to drama camp, cheerleading to church groups, your daughter?s adventure is out there waiting for her.

Weddings are a wonderful and romantic time full of long lasting memories. Nearly everyone usually has some memory of watching children at weddings in obviously uncomfortable clothes. While seeing photographs of really cute kids in wedding pictures is great, their comfort is also very important.

Listed below are a few key tips on how to dress your kids comfortably for the big day:

Dress them appropriately for the time of year and time of day. If attending a summer wedding, nice cool dresses, even sleeveless are fine for little girls. For a summer wedding, a dress that falls just above the knee that is made of silk, linen or cotton is fine. Satin, velvet, or other warm material, are great for a winter wedding. There is no need to dress little girls in long floor length formal gowns for weddings. First of all, the excess material may become a trip hazard. Even though some brides may not mind, always try to avoid dressing girls in white.

For boys, comfort is still important and while jackets and ties are adorable, they can be quite restrictive. Depending on the boy?s age, a shirt and tie is quite fine. Unless boys are taking part in the wedding, tuxedos should be avoided. At some point, especially after the picture taking, the tie can be removed so that they are even more comfortable.

Shoes MUST be comfortable. Since kids? feet are still soft, shoes that are tight will give them grief. Heels are also cute, and some little girls like them because it makes them feel gown-up. For children under 8 years old however they are not recommended for extended wear.

For kids who will be a part of the wedding party, their shoes should be comfort to walk in.

Comfort is especially important if the children are taking part in the wedding. Granted, the style for children in the wedding party should be taken from the tone of the wedding. Nonetheless, comfort can be enhanced by not dressing flower girls and mini-brides in heavy material. Likewise, a boy shouldn?t be confined throughout to keep on his tux; after the formalities are over the jackets can go.

It is also important to remember that children are more likely to behave properly if dressed comfortably. Kids are more likely to be fussy and fidgety if dressed in clothing that is hot and itchy. Uncomfortably dressed children may seem cute but eventually they can become too much to handle. Pictures and videos will bear lasting evidence of kids who were uncomfortably dressed at a wedding. Their facial expressions and actions will be obvious signs that they were not completely happy.

Finally, if children are under 10-years old, it is a good idea to pack an extra change of clothes. This is especially important for very young children as they may spill their food or drink on themselves. Yu do not want your children going through the entire wedding in soiled clothes, plus, it may also make then uncomfortable.

Dressing kids comfortably for a wedding is important to ensuring the day is not disrupted with complaints so you can have a wonderful and memorable day.

Shopping for wedding dresses could be a pretty stressful process. If you?re looking for designer wedding dresses, make sure to check out Maggie Sottero wedding dresses and Vera Wang wedding dresses. Offering everything from casual to winter bridal gowns, you?re guaranteed to be the most beautiful bride.

Are you waiting to start university, coming to the end of your degree or looking for an interesting and challenging way to spend your gap year? Then a summer internship in Paris may be just for you. Paris is one of the most exciting cities in the world; a major tourist centre, and the home of international businesses, the fashion industry and culture and the arts. There are a limited amount of internships available in Paris that are primarily aimed at travel, business, fashion and art students. This is an ideal opportunity to immerse yourself in French culture whilst at the same time gaining an invaluable cultural and professional experience (not to say having a little fun along the way, Paris is packed with fabulous nightlife and bars!).

To be eligible for summer internships abroad 2010 you have to be over eighteen years of age and have either enrolled on, started or just completed a degree level course. A good level of French is essential and students will be expected to have studied the language for a minimum of two semesters. Your placement will be dependent on you demonstrating that you have studied or are studying in that particular area. Any previous, relevant work experience will be beneficial, though not necessary.

Students are generally housed with host families, where bed and breakfast is provided. All host families have been vetted and are continually assessed. They live in well maintained homes in desirable areas of Paris. Staying with a host family can give you an ideal opportunity to practice and develop your language skills and to gain a first hand experience of French culture and lifestyle. An added attraction is that they will let you access groups of people generally not normally met by the usual visitor. Most homestay placements have excellent access to nearby transport links making it easy to get to and from your placement and become easily familiar with the city.

As well as developing your language and cultural skills from your work and home placement, students can expect to receive full time intensive French language training, normally provided by a fully accredited French language school. In many cases tuition is done in the form of group work which will give you further opportunity to meet with other overseas students and so make new friends and further increase your social network. This in itself may have future benefits when you are in your chosen profession. The language schools themselves are usually situated centrally close to the fabulous shops, wonderful museums and pavement cafes which make Paris so special.
The benefits to be gained from taking part in this program are numerous and many are mentioned or implied above. It should also be possible to gain university credits but this will need to be checked with your program coordinator.

Whilst you might have to make some initial financial outlay, such as travel arrangements, some of this can be recuperated from educational grants, etc. (again you will need to check this with your university or your program coordinator).

An internship is a once in a lifetime, limited, opportunity and as such is definitely worth any extra costs that may be incurred. Being placed in an internship that satisfies your particular needs and provides you with a position relevant to your chosen profession can gain you a wealth of experience that will put you well ahead of others competing for the same jobs.

In most situations interns are provided with an individual supervisor who act as a mentor, also once the placement has been completed you receive a formal letter of reference which can help enhance your C.V. and give you a great advantage over other candidates when applying for future jobs. You shall also have established professional and personal contacts in a foreign environment. Finally you will be bilingual which should be of enormous advantage to you in your future chosen profession. Most of all you will have experienced joi de vie. For summer internships abroad 2010 check online to see the opportunities waiting. Bon chance!

Most of us enjoy a lazy day when we can sleep in, putz around and just relax a little – and our kids are no different. However, when the dog days of summer come, some teens take that one “couch out” day and stretch it over an entire summer break. Here are some tips to combat summertime teen laziness and keep your teen active and engaged.

Communicate Expectations ? Tell your teen in a nonthreatening but firm manner that you will not accept their staying in bed all morning and afternoon. It is perfectly reasonable to ask that they get up at a decent hour. Explain that you want them to do more than merely watch TV, play video games, or visit social networking sites all day.

If your teen wants you to help pay for their summer activities, they should be willing to abide by a few summer guidelines. Set an age appropriate, specific time that you expect them to be home, based upon the level of trust they have earned. Ask them to take on a couple of extra chores during the summer to earn some pocket money. These chores could be for you or someone else, but make sure they go above and beyond the normal, everyday chores that every member of the family should be expected to do.

Get Them Engaged ? Whether you ask them to help you more around the house, participate in volunteer activities in the community, or help them get a job, you want them to be engaged in something worthwhile. Give them encouragement to help at a YMCA, children?s program, or nursing home. They may find they truly enjoy these volunteer activities and you will help them appreciate the joys of serving others that will last a lifetime.

Help them find volunteer positions by calling around to local places of worship, daycares, charities, or nursing homes. Local businesses may be hiring summer help; offer to help them find a job to earn some extra money. This will help them learn to manage money, but will also help them realize the value of their time. If they get paid by the hour, they might be less likely to fritter their time away.

Spend Family Time ? Avoid giving lectures about what they should do during the summer. (Lectures, period, are ineffective with teens.) Instead, find activities that you can do with them. You don?t have to spend every waking moment with your teen, but take some time to take them shopping, go to a movie, or out for a coffee. Keep it relaxed and let your teen open up to you in their own time and way. Summertime is a great time to reconnect with your teen. Don?t let these weeks go by without taking this time to slow down and just be together.

Encourage Physical Activity ? Take time to learn or play a new sport with your teen. Not only will this help your teen be more active during the summer, it?ll help you get some much needed exercise, too. Boys in particular are more likely to enjoy “side by side” activities. These are often great times to open dialogue with your son about important issues. Give tennis, swimming, cycling, or rollerblading a try. You both will benefit your health and well being.

Parents all over the country complain that their teens get lazy during the summer break. But teens, just like toddlers, need guidance, clear communication, and reminders of your expectations in order to be successful. These tips should get you well on your way. Ask your teen if there are things they?d like to accomplish before school starts, and then help them to meet those goals.

“I’m fat!” “I’m ugly!” “I have nothing to wear that doesn’t make me look gross!”

Despite all your pep talks and positive reinforcement, you can’t seem to get through to your daughter. She’s unhappy with her appearance and convinced that everyone else is looking at her with judgment. You’re sad that she’s so one, too focused on her physical appearance and second, doesn’t appreciate her unique beauty. How do you help your daughter develop a healthy body image?

Healthy self esteem comes from the inside. As much as we would like to be able to pour it into our kids like a bucket, it isn’t that simple. However, there ARE ways we as parents can help:

Studies show that girls who play sports have a more positive body image than girls who don’t. It’s important for girls to play sports or do some kind of challenging physical activity so that they learn to appreciate their bodies for what they can DO instead of only what they look like. This is very important. If your daughter isn’t into soccer or tennis, how about martial arts, ballet or dance? Learning to carry oneself with pride and a growing sense of accomplishment as one meets challenges is how self esteem is built.

Try a reality check. Look at fashion magazines with your daughter and talk about how the photos are airbrushed and how the models are made-up by a team of experts. The reality is, no fashion model or actress actually looks like that when she wakes up in the morning! Help her understand that these images are not “real”. You may want to place a limit on how many of these magazines you allow your daughter to read. They can have a negative impact on a young woman’s self image.

Emphasize good health over looks. Not every body type has the genetics to be a size 2, but you can be healthy and feel great at a size 12. Taking good care of our skin and hair helps us glow from the inside. Girls need to find their comfortable weight and love themselves for who they are instead of comparing themselves to others. Emphasizing nutrition and exercise will help your daughter maximize her natural assets. Healthy and happy is always in style.

Help her pick out clothing that is flattering to her body. Girls want to wear what everyone else is wearing. Unfortunately not all cuts are becoming to all body sizes and shapes. Find some good books at the library that show you how to dress for your body shape. Wearing the right colors for your skin tone, hair and eye color also helps you look your best.

While you are working toward building your daughter’s image, remind her siblings and father that teasing, name calling and rude comments about their sister’s looks will not be tolerated. Avoid watching TV programs and movies that emphasize physical beauty too much or that promote a disrespectful attitude towards women and their bodies.

Finally, if your teen is overweight, institute an exercise / healthy eating program as a family. Start going for walks or runs with her, begin a sport together, join a ladies only gym. Getting active and exercising regularly boosts the mood and encourages more activity even before the weight starts to come off, creating a positive cycle. An overweight teen is going to have a low self image in our thin obsessed society. Work together as a family ? it will go a long way in helping your teen daughter develop a healthy body image.
