Having a child is always an adventure. You’ll have an opportunity to observe your baby’s personality developing as she learns about the world around her. You’ll also have a chance to take an active role in that process. For new parents, the experience is unlike any other, and they’ll remember it forever.

New moms and dads will also experience a mild sense of anxiety regarding several “firsts” in their little one’s life. No matter how many books you read, and how much you prepare, your infant’s first bath, haircut, illness, and tooth, are bound to make you feel uneasy. It’s part of the adventure. With that in mind, this article will give you a brief road map to prepare you and help you form the right expectations.

Bathing

You can expect your little one’s first bath to be a nerve-racking experience. You’ll naturally want to do everything right and simultaneously protect her from harm (e.g. too-hot water, drowning, etc.). But, it’s important to avoid placing too much pressure on yourself and your partner. Realize that things may happen outside “the plan,” but are unlikely to cause a problem.

Fortunately, there are a few steps you can take to minimize your anxiety while fully enjoying the event. First, prepare the supplies in advance. Set out a towel, sponge, cotton balls, washcloth, and a diaper. Second, after you fill the basin with water, test the temperature to make sure it’s warm enough without being too hot. Third, close the windows in whatever room you’re giving the bath to prevent your baby from getting cold.

Haircut

As nerve-racking as your baby’s first bath is for you, her first haircut is stressful to her. From her point of view, she’ll be draped in an unfamiliar – and uncomfortable – cape while someone she has never met stands near her with scissors. She’ll be comforted by your presence, but will still find the experience unnerving.

When you and your little one visit the beauty salon for her first time, let her bring one of her stuffed animals. That will give her an extra level of comfort. You can also help her become more comfortable by letting her watch as you receive your own haircut.

Illness

Moms and dads never enjoy seeing their children cope with sickness. And to be sure, the first time your little one gets sick, you’ll likely feel anxious and powerless at the same time. Regardless of what you do to try to comfort her, she’ll remain fussy and teary-eyed. Moreover, her normal routine (i.e. eating, sleeping, etc.) might be thrown awry.

While it’s inevitable that your baby will eventually suffer a cold, ear infection, or other ailment, there are a few things you can do to make her more comfortable. For example, breastfeeding usually has a soothing effect on babies. The physical contact is comforting to them. If your baby’s nose is stuffy and she’s having trouble breathing through it, try rocking her back and forth in your arms. That might relieve some of the congestion.

Tooth

By your baby’s sixth month, she’ll likely have started teething. While part of you will be tempted to grab your camera, another part might feel exasperated. Your little one will become fussy; she’ll change her eating habits; she might wake up crying throughout the night; she might also have diarrhea while running a fever.

First, use cold water to dampen a washcloth and let your baby chew (or gnaw) on it. That will relieve some of her discomfort. If your infant has toys that she uses for teething, place them in the refrigerator to keep them cool for her. You can also try gently massaging her gums with your index finger. You won’t be able to completely get rid of her pain, but you can provide a degree of comfort.

Watching your baby experience things for the first time is both exciting and a little unsettling. Realize that there’s only so much you and your partner can do to calm her fears and ease her discomfort.

Start planning your baby’s wardrobe while you’re pregnant. That way, you’ll have plenty of time to make a list, update your gift registries, and take advantage of unexpected sales. By the time your little one is born, you’ll have a fully-stocked closet of baby clothes waiting for her at home.

This article will provide a quick list of five helpful tips for buying clothes for your infant. If you’re an experienced mom or dad preparing for the arrival of a second child, the following advice will be intuitive. If you’re a first-time parent, these suggestions will save you time, money, and frustration.

Tip 1 – Limit Your Newborn Purchases

Your infant will grow quickly, especially during the first month. If you buy a large volume of clothing fit for a newborn, you may be disappointed when your little one sprints past them to larger sizes. Aside from a few starting items (e.g. socks, onesies, etc.), wait awhile before loading up her wardrobe. That way, you can avoid wasting your limited budget on clothes she’ll never have the chance to wear.

Tip 2 – Stock Up When You See A Sale

When you see baby clothes on sale for a steep discount, take the opportunity to fill your little one’s closet. Even if she’s only two months old and the tops, bottoms, and outfits are for an eight-month-old, she’ll grow into them. Plus, she’s unlikely to care about fashion.

This is a great way to stretch your budget while buying the clothing items your baby needs – or, will need in the future. The only drawback is that predicting how she’ll grow into seasonal wear (e.g. coats) is difficult. But year-round items, such as socks and onesies, are practically a sure bet.

Tip 3 – Buy In Layers

When your infant gets cold or hot, you’ll find it more convenient to add or strip a layer rather than changing her entire outfit. When it comes to baby clothes, layering is smart planning. Buy tops and bottoms that are light and can be worn on top of each other. If you need to remove an outer layer, you can easily do so within a minute.

Tip 4 – Remember Her Feet!

Moms and dads who have cared for babies can attest that keeping socks on their feet is an challenge unto itself. It often seems as if infants purposefully kick them off at their first opportunity. Either buy socks in bulk or purchase outfits that include footies. If you choose the former route, plan in advance to lose nearly every sock you buy for your little one. It will save you the frustration of wondering why her inventory is dwindling so quickly.

Your newborn can do without shoes since she’s unlikely to do much walking. That said, many parents enjoy putting shoes on their babies’ feet as part of an outfit. If you decide to do the same, make sure they’re soft with a large space at the top. That will prevent your needing to fight in order to insert her foot.

Tip 5 – Watch For Dangerous Attachments

Buttons, zippers, laces, and other adornments can be hazardous to an infant, especially because babies tend to put everything within reach in their mouths. Before purchasing baby clothes, examine each item to make sure there are no such attachments, or they are securely held in place. Don’t assume that a given top or bottom is safe simply because a trusted store is selling them. Trust your judgment.

Buying baby clothes for your little one is an enjoyable experience. You’ll have a chance to mix and match tops, bottoms, beanies, and other items in planning her entire wardrobe. But it’s not without potentially expensive and frustrating challenges. Use the suggestions above to stretch your budget and build your baby’s wardrobe with clothes she’ll love to wear.

Your little one’s playroom is a room set aside for her and her toys. This is the area of your home where she’ll spend her time having fun, satisfying her curiosities, and developing her intuition. This is a far cry from the playpens to which parents confined their babies a generation ago. Infants are now encouraged to explore their newfound freedom and entertain themselves. The problem is, a playroom needs to be babyproofed in order to protect the safety of your little one. Many parents neglect to do so.

This article will provide an overview of the potential dangers that can lurk within your baby’s designated play area. You may be surprised by the number of hazards that can threaten her safety. Now is the time to begin planning – before your little one can discover these dangers on her own.

Harmful Gases And Metals

One of the most common elements in homes that can have a long-term impact on an infant’s growth, development, and overall health, is carbon monoxide. It’s tasteless, odorless, and invisible, which means it’s impossible to detect with the naked eye. Babies are especially susceptible because their immune systems are weaker than adults. Making matters worse, homes built today are so tightly-sealed that the gas can be trapped inside throughout the year.

Buy a carbon monoxide detector and install it within your baby’s playroom (if possible, near a heat source). In fact, consider buying a detector for each room in which you or your little one spend a lot of time.

Another potential danger for your infant is her prolonged exposure to lead. A lot of homes that were built prior to 1980 either have lead in the original paint or within the wallpaper. This causes tiny particles to become airborne, which can be ingested through dust. A high level of exposure over a long period of time can even cause lead poisoning.

The best approach is to have your home tested for lead. If lead is found, you can hire contractors to remove it (expensive and inconvenient), or use sealants to cover it up.

Outlets, Gadgets, Doors, And More

Beyond gases and metals, there are several other items that can prove harmful to your little one within her playroom. For example, electrical outlets will be immediately accessible to her because they are usually located near the floor. Given an infant’s curious nature, an uncovered outlet can be extremely dangerous. Fortunately, you can purchase plastic covers that snap into the outlets and prevent tampering.

Also, many parents leave DVD players, game consoles, and other gadgets in their babies playrooms. These can be dangerous for a couple of reasons. First, these electronics give your baby an opportunity to stick her fingers in places that can cause injury. Second, she might become entangled in the cords. If you must leave these things in your little one’s play area, keep them out of her reach.

Doors can also pose a danger. The door jamb can hurt your baby’s fingers and the hinges might catch her clothing. You can buy doorstops that all but eliminate the likelihood of her getting her fingers caught in the jamb. You can also purchase special hinges that are designed to avoid catching clothes.

Inspecting The Toys For Potential Hazards

The toys you buy for your baby may be hazardous for several reasons. For example, over the past few years, a number of toys have been recalled by their respective manufacturers. Some of the recalls involved safety issues, such as small detachable parts that can be easily swallowed by an infant. Others involved lead paint. Keep in mind that nearly every toy you buy for your baby will eventually end up in her mouth. Examine them carefully before adding them to her play area.

A designated playroom gives your little one a chance to enjoy a high level of autonomy away from her crib or playpen. But make sure you babyproof the area to protect her safety.

When your best friend, sister, or daughter is pregnant, you might be the lucky (or slightly stressed out) one asked to throw her baby shower. This can be a daunting task, especially when the guest list can include everyone from the crazy college roommate to the eighty year old grandmother. With this variety in guests and interests, it is a good idea to have a multitude of games which are fun and lighthearted, and easy for anyone to play. Having games prepared in advance will also keep the conversation flowing and ensure that everyone is having a good time, leaving you time to relax and enjoy the party. Choose a few of your favorites from the list of games, and you can be sure the party will be a hit!

ORIGINAL ONE PIECE SNAPUP
This is one of my favorite ideas, as it is a craft that can be done on the side while another game is being played. Set up a craft table on the side and stock it with enough basic white one piece snapup so that every guest can have one. Using fabric paint, have each guest decorate it in any way they choose. This is fun and relaxing, and many people enjoy it since they get to be creative! To help with the painting process, slip the snapup over a piece of cardboard. This ensures that the paint will not bleed and it makes it easier to draw on. This is a craft that will get everyone talking and can go on throughout the entire shower!

TINY TOTS TASTE TEST
This game is super fun, and one of my favorite ways to get a baby shower going. Buy eight jars of baby food and remove the labels. With a sharpie, number each jar 1-8 (on the lid or with a sticker, whatever you prefer). Pass out a spoon, pen, and a small piece of paper to each person at the party and have them number their paper from one to eight. Now, let the fun begin! Each guest tastes every jar of baby food and must write down what type of food it is. At the end, see who got the most correct and award them with a prize. This will definitely get the conversation rolling and break the ice!

WHO’S THAT BEAUTIFUL BABY?
This game requires a little planning ahead by asking each guest to bring a baby picture of themselves to the shower. When they arrive, collect all the pictures and tape them to a poster board. From here, the game can be played in two ways. One, have the mom- to-be guess who each picture is. Or, have all the guests guess, either taking turns or shouting out answers. It is always fun to take a walk down memory lane, and this game will get everyone talking!

YOU THINK I’M HOW BIG?
This game is sure to get everyone giggling. The object of the game is to guess the circumference of the mom-to-be’s belly. Purchase a ball of yarn and pass it around to each guest, having them cut off a piece of yarn which they think equals the size of the expectant mother’s belly. Once everyone has cut their piece of yarn, wrap each one around her waist. The prize goes to whoever guessed the closest!

These games are sure to be fun and get everyone involved! Although it is often fun to include prizes, we all know that this can get expensive. Prizes are not a requirement, but if you would like to do so there are several options. First, make sure the prizes are small. A nice bar of soap, some chocolates, or a candle are great options. If you would like to have more prizes, you can always ask each guest to bring a small wrapped gift (under five or ten dollars) and pass these out to each winner. No matter your budget, there are ways to make it work!

Pregnancy clothing is no longer designed to conceal the belly and make moms-to-be appear like a picnic table. Today, the tops and bottoms are stylish, sophisticated, and fun. Far from revealing everything, they accentuate a pregnant woman’s best features while downplaying others. Some clothes highlight curves with a flirtatious playfulness. Others leave an air of mystery that attracts the curiosity of passersby. Over the span of a few short decades, maternity clothes have evolved from frumpy to fashionable.

This article will introduce you to the basics of attractive pregnancy wear. We’ll start by explaining the fundamentals of looking great while feeling comfortable. We’ll also explore wearing lingerie and shoes, and provide a few suggestions for making the most of your maternity wardrobe.

Don’t Forget The Fundamentals

Every mom-to-be’s closet should have at least one or two pairs of jeans. Ten years ago, pregnancy “jeans” were anything but. They were made from material that was a distant cousin to denim and often looked the part. Today, a plethora of maternity wear designers offer attractive and comfortable denim jeans for pregnant women. They fit snugly around your body without feeling restrictive. Moreover, they look great.

You should also have a few stretch button-down shirts. Solid colors are a good idea because they’re simple to mix and match without sacrificing style. Some tank tops and cardigans can round out your wardrobe and ensure you look hip and sophisticated at the same time.

The Garments Under The Garments

Even though few people will see them, your undergarments play a key role in how you feel. For example, the right lingerie will help you feel sexy, even when your body and mind are exhausted. A well-fitting nursing bra can provide valuable support that takes pressure off your back.

While a high-quality nursing bra is always worth the investment, pregnant women can continue wearing their pre-pregnancy panties and thongs (as long as they fit comfortably).

Shoes: Comfort And Style Rolled Into One

As your balance begins to shift, you’ll eventually need to retire your six-inch heels. However, this doesn’t mean you need to abandon stylish shoes entirely. You’ll have a wide selection of fashionable options available to you, including flats and low-heeled boots.

The most important thing to consider is your comfort. Your feet will likely swell (due to water retention) as you move into your third trimester. Give them room to expand. Rather than forcing them into tight shoes, opt for an attractive alternative that provides the support and comfort your feet crave. The happier they are, the better your mood.

A Few Last Tips For Feeling And Looking Great

When it came to maternity clothes, the previous generation of pregnant women had far fewer choices than today’s moms-to-be. As a result, the rules of engagement have changed. Not only is it possible to look great while staying comfortable, doing so is easy. Here are a few tips to help you get started in the right direction:

Tip 1 – Start Early

When you begin to notice your regular tops and bottoms feeling tight against your body, start shopping for maternity clothes. Don’t wait until you’re uncomfortable in your normal attire. Keep in mind, the sooner you start looking for pregnancy wear, the more opportunity you’ll have to enjoy it.

Tip 2 – Look Good, But Prioritize Comfort

If you had to choose between looking great and feeling comfortable, always choose the latter. Don’t buy clothing that feels too tight and restrictive just because it looks attractive on your body. Besides, it’s too easy to find maternity clothes that fulfill both goals.

Tip 3 – Work In Layers

During your pregnancy, your body will heat up more quickly than normal. Purchase your maternity wear in layers that can be easily stripped off in the event your body begins to overheat.

Being pregnant no longer means looking frumpy. With a little planning and creativity, you can enjoy fashionable maternity clothes that won’t sacrifice your comfort.

Those precious minutes when your little one is napping give you a chance to recharge, regroup, and get things done. It’s easy for new moms to feel frustrated and fatigued due to not having enough time to handle everything on their “to do” lists. When their babies are catching a catnap, the time alone offers a brief – but welcome – respite from an otherwise hectic schedule. The key to keeping your sanity is maximizing those minutes.

Below, we’ll explore some ways in which you can leverage the time your baby spends napping. You’ll learn why you should consider yourself a priority and plan the time around your body’s natural rhythm. We’ll also distinguish between your little one’s short and long naps in the context of spending the time as productively as possible.

Consider Yourself A High Priority

A lot of new moms spend their babies’ naptime frantically getting things done around the house. For example, they’ll throw themselves into paying the bills and washing the dishes. They rush to toss a load of laundry into the washer or get things ready for dinner. While doing these things make it seem as if you’re being productive, they can take a greater toll on your mind and body over the long run.

Your little one will be happier when you’re happy. She’ll be able to detect your stress level when it’s high. When she naps, consider yourself as much a priority as the household chores. The dishes can wait while you enjoy a small bit of rest and solitude.

Plan According To Your Rhythm

Your body works according to a different rhythm than other people. Try to identify when your energy level is at its peak. Do you feel more energetic during the early morning hours or during the late afternoon? If the morning hours are your peak time, can you plan your schedule to accommodate it?

For example, consider taking showers during the evening to free up more “high energy” time during the morning hours. When your baby takes her first nap of the day, you’ll be able to devote that time to getting more done.

Short Versus Long Naps

Some of your baby’s naps will be shorter than others. The good news is that most babies are consistent in their napping habits. If your little one takes longer naps during the early afternoon, she’s likely to continue doing so for the foreseeable future. That means you can plan around them to maximize your available time.

For instance, when your baby takes a half-hour catnap, use that time to prepare dinner, take a quick shower, wash the dishes, or return calls. When she takes a longer nap, use that time to exercise, clean the house, do a couple of loads of laundry, and take your own catnap.

Plan To Be Productive

Create a list of action items that need to addressed. This is the first step toward planning to be as productive as possible while your baby is napping. Make sure your list includes everything you need to do throughout the day. That might include returning calls, cleaning the house, washing the dishes, and scheduling an appointment with your little one’s pediatrician. Prioritize each item.

When your baby takes a catnap, simply go down the list. You’ll know instinctively some action items will require 30 minutes while others can be finished within a few minutes. You’ll be surprised by how productive such a list will make you while your infant is napping.

The responsibilities of being a new mom can rattle anyone’s nerves. Not only is there a seemingly endless list of tasks to do, but there’s little time to do them. Learn to leverage your little one’s naps. It’s the best strategy for being productive while staying happy, healthy, and sane.

The first days, weeks, and months after your little one’s birth are a critical time for both of you. The world around her is a mystery. She’s unsure of her place and uncertain about whom she can trust for safety. It is during this period that new moms and dads can forge a strong bond with their babies. Personal interaction plays an irreplaceable role in this process and will help your little one develop mentally and emotionally into a healthy young child.

This article will offer a few suggestions for strengthening the connection you enjoy with your baby. Over time, you’ll find the four tips below will encourage your little one to trust you and feel safe whenever she’s near you.

Tip 1 – Sing To Her

Babies quickly form attachments to their parents’ voices. When your infant hears your voice, she is drawn immediately to it. This is the reason babies enjoy having their moms and dads read to them. Their voices soothe them and make them feel safe and secure.

In the same way, your little one will enjoy your singing to her. She’ll recognize your voice, but will take even more pleasure in the melodies you create with it.

Tip 2 – Let Her Study Your Face

Have you ever noticed babies looking intently at people’s faces? While they may be distracted by other sights and sounds, few things hold their attention as effectively as a person’s face. Give your baby plenty of opportunities to study yours. When you’re talking to her, move your face next to her own. When you’re reading to her, prop her up so she can clearly see your lips moving.

New infants can see approximately twelve inches in front of their eyes. That means it’s important for you to bring your face close to your little one’s. Give her a chance to study the curves of your nose, cheeks, and jaw. This creates an indelible memory of you in her brain.

Tip 3 – Keep Her Close To Your Body

The warmth of a mother’s body is soothing and comforting to a baby. To give your little one a chance to enjoy that sensation, consider carrying her in a sling. That allows her to feel your warmth next to her. She’ll gradually remember your scent and the feel of your body’s movements. That strengthens the connection she feels toward you.

Tip 4 – Let Her Use Your Stomach

The surface of your stomach provides an ideal training ground on which your little one can develop strength in her upper body. A few times each day, lay on your back and place a light blanket on your stomach. Then, place your baby on the blanket and allow her to adjust herself. She’ll attempt to lift her head in order to see what’s around her. When she becomes frustrated, pick her up and soothe her.

In the beginning, each session should last no longer than a couple of minutes. As time goes by, extend the sessions to help her further develop strength. You can even encourage her to lift her head by talking to her (remember, she’s drawn to your voice).

Forming a strong bond with your baby is a natural process that requires a large amount of personal interaction. You can help your baby develop emotionally and intellectually by using your voice and body. Sing to her; give her a chance to study your face in detail; hold her close to your body so she can feel your warmth; help her develop physically by laying her on your stomach.

These individual activities engage her mind and body. If you do them consistently, they’ll reinforce the attachment your baby feels toward you.

During your first and second trimesters, time crawls. It can seem as if you’ll have plenty of time to prepare your home and yourself for the arrival of your little one. Then, the third trimester begins. Suddenly, things happen in a rush and you’ll likely find yourself trying to squeeze extra minutes into each day. Such is the process that millions of moms-to-be go through as their due dates grow nearer.

Below, we’ll give you a quick checklist of items that you need to address before your baby is born. These are the things many new moms and dads neglect as the third trimester flies by.

Getting The Word Out

When your baby arrives, you’ll want to announce the news to your friends and family. The problem is, if you wait until after she’s born to plan and design the announcements, you may find that you lack the time. Plan ahead. Gather the necessary information beforehand during your third trimester.

For example, if you want to announce your little one’s birth in your college alumni magazine, visit their website to figure out how to do so in advance. There are also services that allow you to design the layout of your announcements through their website. Some will even mail them for you. If you take the time to design them before your baby is born, you’ll only need to fill in a couple of details (e.g. the birth date) before sending them.

Providing The Right Care

You and your baby are going to need plenty of help from others following her birth. For example, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a pediatrician within one week of her birth date. You’ll also need to educate yourself regarding how your medical insurance works. Must you add your baby to your plan immediately after her birth or do you have a few weeks to do so?

You should interview and choose a few babysitters upon whom you can rely. If you have family and friends who are willing to babysit for you, this will be less a priority. That said, having a few extra resources in your phone book may come in handy down the road.

Another professional new moms neglect to consult are nursing and lactation experts. If you’re planning to breastfeed your little one, choose a few experts in advance from whom you can seek advice.

Planning For Tragedy

It’s unpleasant to think something tragic might occur that prevents you from being near your baby’s side. However, planning for tragedy is critical and should be done long before your little one is born.

You’ll need life insurance that provides a layer of financial relief in the event you pass away prematurely. Depending on your budget and the needs of your family, term life insurance may be an attractive option.

You and your partner should also identify a guardian who will care for your baby in the event something tragic happens to both of you. There are a few ways to do this, so be sure to consult with a lawyer to determine the right approach for your family.

Also, gather the necessary documents and phone numbers to change the beneficiaries on your retirement accounts (e.g. 401K, IRA, etc.) and life insurance policy. When your little is born, you’ll be able to make a few quick phone calls to have her added.

By the time your third trimester arrives, time will seem to slip through your fingers. Moreover, when your baby is born, you’ll have little time to devote to anything except her care. Plan your announcements, select your care network, and make the necessary arrangements for unforeseen circumstances ahead of time. The peace of mind alone will make the effort worthwhile.

As you progress through your pregnancy, your body will continue to change – often in surprising ways. Not only will your stomach expand and your feet swell, but your breasts, too, will grow larger. Most moms-to-be experience a change in cup size. Some move up a single size; others move up several. As your body is undergoing these changes, it can be difficult to find bras that fit comfortably.

When you begin to notice a change in fit, consider purchasing nursing bras. Not only are they designed to accommodate your body as you near childbirth, but they’re also an enormous help while you nurse your little one.

In this article, we’ll provide an overview of nursing bras. We’ll describe the ways in which they differ from normal bras and give you a few suggestions for finding the right fit.

How Are They Different?

First, let’s explore how nursing bras are similar to their pre-pregnant counterparts. That will make their differences clearer. Both types have standard hooks and clasps that can be adjusted for a proper fit. Conventional bras may have three hooks while nursing bras usually have four or five. Both are also available in cotton, which is important for dryness while you’re nursing.

That’s where the similarities end. Nursing bras are normally thicker and wider in order to provide more support for the additional weight. They also have extra clasps that provide more accessibility. For example, some have clasps between the cups; others have clasps near the cups’ top lining; some are even designed without clasps. The key is to find the style that is most comfortable for you while accommodating your baby’s nursing needs.

Finding The Right Fit For Your Body

Don’t assume extra hooks and clasps make finding a comfortable fit easy. Invest the time to take proper measurements to make sure you buy the right fit.

The first step is to measure your band size. Wear a bra (one that is not padded) that offers a snug fit. Wrap a standard measuring tape around your rib cage directly underneath your breasts. Make certain the tape is level with the floor to prevent oversizing. Make a note of the measurement.

Next, measure your cup size. Wrap the tape around the part of your breast that is fullest. Again, make sure the tape is level with the ground. Avoid wrapping the tape tightly; hold it loosely. Make a note of the measurement.

Subtract the first number from the second number. For example, if your band size is 37 and your second number is 40, the difference is 3. Use that number at the manufacturer’s site (or within the store in which you’re shopping) to find the appropriate cup size. If you measure in between sizes, round down to ensure a snug fit. However, try the bra on. If it’s too snug, round up.

Wearing And Washing: Minding The Details

When you first begin wearing a nursing bra, it is important that you make sure the fit is comfortable and supportive without being restrictive. The best way to accurately gauge the fit is to lean forward while putting it on and gently position your breasts as you straighten your frame. If the fit is too snug, but the next size up provide inadequate support, you can purchase extenders that connect to the hooks.

You should hand-wash your nursing bras to prolong their life and help them maintain their elasticity. A lot of nursing mothers find it convenient to wear the bras into the shower where they can wash and hang them easily.

Remember, every manufacturer designs their nursing bras a little differently. While you should take the time to measure your band and cup size, rely on your own comfort (or, lack thereof) as your guide.

Your body is growing, your balance is shifting, and energy is becoming a precious commodity in short supply by the end of each day. Welcome to the world of pregnancy. A general and persistent lack of comfort plagues millions of moms-to-be, which makes it difficult for them to fully enjoy the rewarding experience of being pregnant. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to reduce your discomfort.

Below, we’ll offer a few suggestions that will make your second and third trimesters more comfortable. You’ll learn how the right shoes, clothes, undergarments, and diet can play major roles in helping you enjoy this special time in your life.

Invest In The Right Shoes

As your feet go, so goes your mood. During your pregnancy, your feet may expand. Many women even experience an increase in their shoe size. This is due to water retention and the release of relaxin, a hormone that relaxes your ligaments. Meanwhile, as your feet begin to outgrow your shoes, extra weight is being placed upon them. This can quickly cause discomfort for your entire body.

Invest is flats and low-heeled shoes to relieve pressure on your back. Not only will they provide more comfort, but as your balance changes, you’ll be less likely to stumble and take a dangerous fall.

Clothes That Fit Your Body

You can probably continue wearing your pre-pregnancy clothes throughout the beginning your first trimester. However, by week number ten or eleven, they’ll begin to feel a little too snug around your body. That’s a sign you’re ready for maternity clothes.

Many moms-to-be avoid transitioning to maternity wear for a number of reasons, including cost and vanity. While some designers arguably charge a high price, a lot of maternity clothes are reasonably priced to fit most budgets. What’s more, the unfashionable tops and bottoms of yesteryear have been replaced by stylish clothes that combine playfulness with a dash of sophistication.

When you feel your clothes becoming tight, treat your body to maternity wear that offers a more comfortable fit.

Maternity Bras And Undergarments

Your breasts will grow during your pregnancy, a situation that offers benefits and drawbacks. While you’ll relish your new curves, you might also experience back pain if your bras offer insufficient support. Invest in maternity bras that provide the support your body needs in order for you to feel comfortable.

While you’re shopping, consider buying panties that are designed to accommodate your lower half. Far from the unflattering pregnancy undies of old, today’s designers have created lingerie that will complement your figure and lift your mood.

A Diet To Help Curb The Morning Blues

Morning sickness is practically inescapable. Most women suffer some level of nausea during their pregnancy. For some, the chronic queasiness appears during the first trimester and turns into an unwelcome guest for the duration.

First, if the nausea is particularly severe, ask your obstetrician to suggest a few foods that can lessen the effects. For example, crackers can help reduce the severity of motion sickness because the taste is relatively bland. Also, try citrusy fruits, such as oranges or grated lemons. Some moms-to-be find lightly-salted potato chips provide relief.

Treating Your Skin With Care

Use lotion and sunscreen liberally to protect your skin from the elements. Doing so will prevent dryness and itchiness, which can quickly become frustrating while you’re pregnant. Also, if you have the time, consider making an appointment at a day spa. A pedicure, facial, and massage can do wonders for your comfort and your mood.

Pregnancy is a special time during which you’ll marvel at the life growing inside you. It’s also a time of challenges as your body expands to accommodate your baby. Use the suggestions above to stay as comfortable as possible while waiting for your little one to finally arrive.
