Why Hone Your Parenting Skills?
It is an admitted fact that parenting is one tough job to handle. Yes, it is a career that ends nowhere and stops at nothing. Becoming parents to your kids would actually entail too much patience, determination, perseverance, and never ending love and care. True enough, you don’t get a day off when you become a parent. And you can only be good at what you are doing provided that you have the appropriate parenting skills.
Come to think of it, there are a number of parents who think that they fail in the fulfillment of this very crucial role. However, others are given the credits because they seem to suit perfectly to the role. Are there really perfect parents? Well, it might be impossible to become perfect in the handling of this task but you can be exceptional for that matter especially if you know how to efficiently carry on with your parenting skills.
You see, kids’ ages vary and the kind of rearing that you must apply should also be varied. You are faced with a variety of circumstances depending on your kids’ ages. The formative years which range from childbirth up to five years of age are said to be very crucial as a child’s behavior is shaped during this time. Then again, another set of challenges await you as your children steps into the so-called teenage years. It is during this stage that they mostly go through the difficult process of handling peer pressure and with all the hormones boiling in their body, they have mood swings and all. If mishandled, they can turn into rebels. Thus, your parenting skills will be most tested in these times.
The behavior or character of a child is said to reflect the parenting skills that have been applied to him or her. You also went through those stages when you might have hated your own parents for forcing you to do this or do that and stop doing this or refrain from doing that. Therefore, you should know how your kids also feel if you keep on nagging them about these circumstances. Feel for them. Be sensitive. Be understanding. These are among the keys that will keep them closer to you and avoid sorts of misunderstandings from arising.
Good parenting skills also involve quality time. You can never find yourself as a good parent overnight or within two weeks or so. You learn how to effectively manage your children as they grow up right before your eyes. It takes time to let them know what they should know. And it takes time for you to realize how well you are managing your family. Forgive and accept them whenever they have done you wrong.
Making sacrifices is also an integral part of one’s parenting skills. You can’t simply get on with the routine that you had when you were single. You have some people to think of. Have they eaten? Have they done their homework? Have they brushed their teeth? And the list of questions goes on.
Overall, good parenting skills involve a commitment that lasts a lifetime.

George Carlin 70 years old but still as quick witted as ever. I found this particular talk about over parenting very true and something that all parents should watch and give thought to – as a parent myself I have seen this at the soccer field and in the attitudes of the teachers at my children' s schools. It' s sickening, what' s worse is that they' re are not creating good children
