Three Tips For Easing New Baby Stress at Home

Remember that great day? Your baby had arrived and you were on the way home with your new bundle. Wasn?t the feeling wonderful? Why didn?t that feeling last longer? Seriously, after feeling like you?re on top of the world, why after you?re home with the baby a few days do you feel like running for the hills and falling asleep when you get there?

Do not worry. You are not alone, nor are you a bad parent. You are simply exhausted and dealing with the stress of ?new baby at home syndrome.? Well, some mothers experience other possible causes as well, such as post partum depression or other medical concerns, but for the purposes of this article, we?ll approach some basic ways of easing new baby stress. If you feel that your stress or symptoms could be more serious, please talk to your health care provider.

Even the happiest times of our lives can cause stress. Weddings are a huge stress inducer. New jobs, new homes, new pets?you name it, if change is involved, then happy or sad, there will be stress. Becoming a new parent is perhaps the most exciting and stressful of all.

New parents are bombarded with visitors as soon as mom goes into labor and they never seem to leave, even after you get home. You have enough to handle at this time, so if there are too many ?advice givers? hanging around, then by all means, politely (or not) ask them to give you and your new baby some private time.

Here are a few simple tips to help get you through those first exhausting weeks after you?ve brought baby home:

#1 – Stop trying to be a wonder woman. When the baby goes down for a nap, take one
yourself. The laundry can wait and so can the dishes. Your home does not have to be perfect, and frankly now?s a good time to get accustomed to what will most likely be the case for years to come anyway. There?s time later to tidy; take care of yourself or you can?t take care of anything else.

#2 ? Ask for help! If you have a good friend or relative to help out, by all means take advantage of that. Grandma would probably jump at the chance to have the baby all to herself for a awhile.

#3 ? Take time to decompress. When you?ve been busy all day with the new baby and everything else you have to do to maintain a household, and possibly take care of older brothers and sisters as well, it can be difficult to wind down just because everyone else is asleep. Once the baby is asleep, take some time for yourself and relax. You?ll have a much better chance of falling asleep. A warm, scented bath along with soothing music is just what Mama needs to pamper herself a bit.

Life with a new baby is both blessing and stressing, but by taking time to take care of yourself, you will be better prepared to handle whatever comes your way.
