The Truth of Circumcision

Many new parents find themselves torn when it comes to whether or not they should circumcise their newborn baby boy. There are many myths and flat out false information out there, which does not help scared parents make a decision that, is right for them or their baby. The best thing to do is to look and the pros and cons of circumcision in order to decide for yourself which route is best for your family.

Going Without the Circumcision

This is a decision that is hard for some fathers who are circumcised themselves because they want their sons to know that they look like their dad in that region. Deciding against the circumcision of a baby does mean however that as the child grows into a man, he can make the decision for himself as to whether or not he wants to be circumcised. In addition, you avoid the possibility of infections from the circumcision itself.

Something to remember though is that a baby may grow up to later want to be circumcised and this is an event that will be painful and it is one that he will remember. An uncircumcised penis also has been said by many studies to have a slightly higher chance of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.

Going For the Circumcision

One of the best things about having the circumcision done as an infant is that the child will never remember it. Some will say that it is extremely painful for the infant but no one really knows that for sure since you cannot ask the baby. Sure, some babies scream and cry through it, but they also were just born and are screaming and crying about many things. Some babies have even been known to sleep through the procedure, which obviously means it was not all that painful.

If you have the circumcision done for your baby, you are taking away that child’s right to make this decision about his penis since he cannot get the foreskin back. Since parents have to make many decisions on behalf of the child, it is most likely not something that the child is going to grow up resenting. Having a child who is circumcised also makes it easier for the parents to make sure that everything is kept clean. There are many infections that take place in children and adults that are uncircumcised.

As you can see, there are good points and bad points for each side of the coin. Some people know without a doubt whether or not they will circumcise their son. Some people are in a religion that requires it while others simply believe against it. It is the parents who are on the fence about it who have the hardest time making their decision. The best thing you can do would be to look over all of the facts that you can find and make your decision from there. Either way, it is not likely that your adult son will someday want to sit you down to talk about the decisions you made regarding his penis at birth.
