The Daunting Task of Keeping Kids Amused on Rainy Days
Rainy days are often the bane of many parents who feel that active kids who are stuck inside rooms are actually more destructive than anything else. They stay indoors and just watch TV or play video games. Some activities, if judiciously managed can actually help parents to manage kids indoors also. Thereafter, any rainy days would not prove dreaded to parents.
- The first activity is coloring which at the face of it seems to be very simple. But it is cheaper and can take a lot of their time. In case you don?t have any coloring books at home, you can take some sketches from internet and make the kids color individual pages.
- Make the kids solve puzzles which are not only a challenge to their intellect but are also helpful in keeping them busy for a long time. In case you do not want to have expensive puzzles you can hunt them from flea markets or from garage sales.
- Board games are kids? all time favourite pastime. Be it Life, or Chutes and Ladders, or CandyLand-an entire family can sit and enjoy the game. Again you can go to garage sales to buy them cheap.
- Let the kids have their own art projects which they can create from all their art and craft stuff. They will enjoy dipping fingers in colors and making new things with the help of glue or sticks or colored paper.
- Make them dance. Not only is it a good pastime but it is also a good way to give a vent to their surplus energy.
- Make the kids write letters to people living far away. The age of handwritten letters is not yet pass?, so ask them to be special to their special relatives and friends.
- Organise an impromptu fashion show for the kids with the help of some elders. They can play dress up. Little girls would surely enjoy this game.
- Let the kids have their own card games. Teach them how to play and they will go on for hours altogether.
- Play with Bingo set and make one from scratch. Include prizes for winners.
- Make the kids cook and bake with recipes from internet. But choose only those recipes that are safe with kids around. Kids can make their own lunch or dinner.
- Use activity books that have crossword puzzles, word games, maths games, quizzes etc. Dollar stores are full of these.
- Make the kids read. Books are their best friends. The sooner you introduce them to the books, the better it is for their intellectual health. Either make them read or read out aloud to them and you would make them good readers for an entire lifetime.
A little creativity can go a long way. Try to think back to when you were young and put yourself in your child’s shoes. What did you find exciting and entertaining when you were little. It is these ideas that are sure to keep your children happily entertained.
