Five Tips For Helping Your Child Potty Train
Anybody who has ever raised a child knows how frustrating it can be to go through the potty training stage with a young child. While some children go through the process of potty training fairly easily there are some that may take longer than expected. This could be for any number of reasons including fear of the toilet or the bathroom, having an immature bladder at the time training is started, or even trying to force a child to hard to use the bathroom themselves. And the thing is you cannot give up no matter how difficult the training is. You have to keep dealing with the messes and buying diapers until your child is ready to start using the potty all on his or her own. But there are a few things that you can do along the way that may help your child to overcome what ever fears or other hurdles that they have in their potty training journey. There are a few potty training tips that may get them go potty all by themselves in no time at all.
1. The first tip regarding potty training that will make your life much easier is to learn to be persistent without pushing your child to hard. Be sure to take your child to the potty every time that they say they have to go to the bathroom but do not punish them if they don’t actually go. It is also a bad idea to punish your child if they have an accident and did not tell you that they had to go. If a child doesn’t make it to the bathroom in time and they are punished for it they may be afraid that the next time they tell you they won’t make it again and they will be punished for it. Be there for them but do not be too hard on them.
2. Another way to get the idea of going potty in the bathroom in your child’s head id to take them to the bathroom every time that they have an accident. Set them on the potty to show them that this is where they should go and clean them up in the bathroom and it may help to reiterate the fact that the bathroom is for going potty.
3. It always helps to make going potty fun for your child as well. There are plenty of books out there about potty training that you can read to your children that may make them realize that using the toilet is not so bad after all. Showing them characters that they can some how relate to doing the same thing may help to get them going.
4. Giving your child small rewards can also be a great way to encourage potty training but they should be given fairly minimally. The best time to give a reward would be when the child goes to the bathroom completely on his own and it should not be expected that they will get a gift every time they use the toilet.
Potty training can be difficult but with a few tricks up your sleeve you can have your child going to the bathroom by his or her self in no time.
