Finding for the Best Baby Bottle

Baby bottles are essential for babies, especially with mothers that are not breastfeeding. But how do you choose the best bottle-feeding system for your baby? And does it really matter? Most of the time it doesn?t really matter but for some feeding situations, choosing the right baby bottle can make all the difference.

Here are some tips that you should bear in mind when buying baby bottles. Nipple shape is important. If you only intend the bottle to be a formula feed, then the shape is not very important. But if you are breastfeeding but will be occasionally using a bottle, then you may want to consider buying something with a wide base nipple that more closely resemble a mother?s breast. This is because some babies may have a hard time switching from the wide latch of breastfeeding to a narrow bottle nipple.

Another thing is that nipple flow rate is also important. The speed at which the formula or breast milk can come through the teat varies a lot by brand. Some brands sell nipples designed for fast or slow flow. Most newborns though need a slower nipple, so that they don?t have to gulp their dinner. Too fast flow can cause stomach troubles for tiny babies. Though some infants may not like the slowest newborn flow nipples, so you may need to experiment a bit to find a nipple that lets your baby eat at his or her preferred pace. You should also plan to buy faster flow nipples as your baby grows.

Bottle materials are also important. Glass bottles are easy to care for and can last a long time, but it can also pose the risk of cuts to mom or baby if it breaks. Plastic bottles, on the other hand, may not last as long, but they are economical and easy to find in stores. Another important thing that you should consider in buying bottles are the bottle shapes and vent systems.

Some babies swallow more air than others as they eat. And some babies are more plagued by stomach discomforts than others. Thus, bottles with an air vent system or bottles with an angled shape are important. These help prevent so much air from entering the baby?s stomach, reducing stomach discomforts. Also, bottle shape should allow you to clean it.

But if you don?t like washing so much, you can also look at drop in bottle liners. These are flexible plastic bags that can fit inside some bottle systems and can be tossed in the trash after meals. Thus, you only need to wash the bottle nipple and rinse the other parts.

Lastly, nipple materials are also important. Silicone nipple is probably much better as they don?t pick up smells or tastes, even after many uses. And they don?t carry the potential for allergies that latex nipple can. More importantly, they are also more difficult to chew holes in, so there is a less risk of choking on a piece that is chewed off.
