Baby Gender Ultrasounds – Do You Want to Know?

For many couples, the topic of whether or not to discover the gender of your unborn child is quite a delicate one. If one partner desperately wants to know, and the other one doesn?t, it can be quite a tricky situation. Can you really trust yourself to keep your mouth shut once you know the gender, or will it be too tempting to start to buy pink clothes or a toy train-set and really give the game away? Can you really trust your partner not to tell anybody else, if they want to know and you don?t? Of course, many people say that they just want to know for practical reasons, and that they don?t mind whether it?s a boy or a girl, as long as the child is healthy. Unfortunately, some other people set their minds on a favourite gender, and find it difficult to come to terms with the prospect of a child of the opposite sex, which can cause bonding problems before the baby is born. Of course, once the baby is born, hopefully it will be love at first sight and no longer an issue.

It is important to bear in mind, also, that there are no guarantees of 100% accuracy for baby gender ultrasounds. You would be pretty fed up if you?d decorated the whole nursery in soft shell pink, bought cupboards full of frilly dresses and splashed out on a lovely pink pram, to be presented with a baby boy at the end of the labour. It?s unlikely, but it could happen, so be warned.

Most women generally have an ultrasound at around 20 weeks, and it is at this time that the baby gender ultrasound is possible. This depends on the co-operation of the baby; it needs to be in a very clear position in order for an accurate analysis. When you have your baby gender ultrasound you will have been told to drink lots of water beforehand, as a full bladder is necessary for a clear picture. If the baby is not in a good position, you may be told to empty part of your bladder (almost impossible but necessary just the same) or to take a walk for a few minutes and hope that the baby turns around.

It is possible to be able to have a baby gender ultrasound sooner than 20 weeks, around 15 weeks is sometimes ok. If you really want to know then the person performing the baby gender ultrasound should be able to tell you, although you may find it difficult to determine for yourself. There are photographs available on the internet of different gestational ages of boy and girl babies, and you really need to know what you are looking for in some of them! Sometimes it is difficult for the untrained eye to decipher which way up the baby is, never mind whether it has any ?added extras?.

In conclusion, try to come to some agreement with your partner before your appointment for the ultrasound, just so save any last minute arguments.

It' s sickening, what' s worse is that they' re
